This week's Covid-19 statistics in Africa show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, four countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while ten others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Morocco, Botswana, Ethiopia, Namibia, and Mauritius. The total deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, June 30, 2022, amounted to 53, with weekly growth above 0 percent.
Morocco ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 142.86 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 17 deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported seven deaths.
Botswana follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 100 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded at 20. Deaths in Ethiopia increased by 25%, Namibia recorded five deaths (up 25%), and deaths in Mauritius decreased by 0%.
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Africa occurred in South Africa with 105 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 13.22% compared to the previous week. Following that, the highest number of deaths was recorded in Botswana at 20 (up 100%), Morocco at 17 (up 142.86%), Zimbabwe at 12 (down 20%), and Ethiopia at 10 (up 25%).
Total deaths in Africa over the last seven days were recorded at 187. This accounts for 2.05 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 9,140. The number of deaths in Africa decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 220 deaths.
