The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.81 million cases by Thursday, March 2, 2023. Nicaragua ranks first, with a 103.03 percent increase in weekly Omicron cases. GISAID recorded 335 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 103.03 percent compared to the previous day.
Ukraine follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in the country increased by 9.6 percent, with 1,507 new cases reported. Daily statistics show a 3.79 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 1,452 cases.
Next, new Omicron cases in China (PRC) increased by 4.69 percent to 15,912 cases compared to the previous week, Brunei Darussalam saw 4,767 new Omicron cases (a 3.63 percent increase), and Zambia saw a 3.12 percent increase to 1,089 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, 34,470 Omicron cases were recorded, showing a 0 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
