This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Eleven countries recorded increased deaths this week, while seven others saw a decrease in the number of deaths.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Honduras, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, and Canada. The total deaths in these five countries for the week of July 10, 2022, amounted to 573, representing a weekly growth exceeding 31.03 percent.
Honduras recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 150 percent. Worldometer recorded five deaths in the country, an increase from the two reported the previous week.
Next is Colombia, which recorded 65.22 percent more deaths than the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as 114, higher than the 69 recorded the previous week. Mexico reported 260 deaths (up 34.02%), Uruguay reported four deaths (up 33.33%), and Canada reported 190 deaths (up 31.03%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest seven-day death toll in the Americas occurred in the United States, with 1,750 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 2.23% compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil reported the highest number of deaths with 1,636 (up 7.63%), followed by Mexico with 260 deaths (up 34.02%), Chile with 232 deaths (up 30.34%), and Canada with 190 deaths (up 31.03%).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 4,481. This accounts for 43.61 percent of global COVID-19 deaths, totaling 10,276. The number of deaths in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 4,176.
