The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.36 million cases by Thursday, October 13, 2022. Nicaragua ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 1,066.67 percent. GISAID recorded 175 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 1,066.67 percent compared to the previous day.
Following Nicaragua is Saudi Arabia, with a weekly growth in Omicron cases reaching 133.33 percent. Daily data shows a 40 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 50 cases.
Next is New Zealand, with an increase of 18,123 Omicron cases (up 19.88 percent). Omicron cases in Russia increased by 17.45 percent to 16,944 cases compared to the previous week, and Omicron cases in Guam increased by 11.03 percent to 433 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the addition of Omicron cases up to yesterday was recorded at 23,765 cases, or a 0.39 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
