According to data from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) processed by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there were 1.49 million health workers in Indonesia in 2023.
Of this number, Indonesia's health workforce was dominated by nurses, totaling 582,000. This was followed by midwives, numbering 344,000.
Medical personnel occupied the third position, with a recorded 183,000 individuals last year.
The Kemenkes defines medical personnel as doctors, specialist doctors, dentists, and specialist dentists, both domestic and foreign, recognized by the government in accordance with Law No. 29 of 2004 concerning Medical Practice.
There were also 130,000 pharmaceutical personnel or pharmacists and 80,000 biomedical personnel in Indonesia in 2023.
Meanwhile, the lowest number of domestic health workers was traditional health workers, at only 447 individuals. This was followed by clinical psychologists, with 1,307 individuals in Indonesia.
