The Covid-19 Handling Task Force reported that the average national Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) for Covid-19 referral hospitals reached 49.6% by Saturday, June 12, 2021. Bed occupancy, comprising isolation rooms and intensive care units (ICU), in seven provinces reached 50-70%. Several exceeded the World Health Organization (WHO) standard of 60%.
The highest bed occupancy rates were on the island of Java, with DKI Jakarta leading at 68.2%. This was followed by Central Java (68%), West Java (65.6%), Yogyakarta (59.2%), and Banten (58.5%) among the provinces with the highest BOR.
In addition to Javanese provinces, Kalimantan and Sumatra were included in the list of seven provinces with BORs above 50%. West Kalimantan ranked fourth nationally with a BOR of 63.4%. West Sumatra had a BOR of 52.6%, placing it seventh nationally.
Following the Lebaran holiday, Indonesian Covid-19 cases began to climb. The Ministry of Health recorded 9,868 new cases on Sunday, June 13, 2021. This was the highest daily increase since February 19, 2021, when 10,614 cases were reported.
The government urged everyone to continue wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. To curb the spread of the coronavirus, the public should also reduce mobility and avoid crowds.
