The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.4 million cases by Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Based on GISAID data, French Guiana recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 669 new cases. This represents 0.02 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
China (PRC) follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the increase in Omicron cases in China grew by 70.19 percent, with 274 new cases reported. Daily statistics show a 0.37 percent increase compared to the previous day's 273 cases.
Next is El Salvador with 201 new Omicron cases (a 34.9% increase), Mayotte with 209 new cases (a 32.28% increase compared to the previous week), and Colombia with 7,080 new Omicron cases (a 12.9% increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 15,663, a 1.76 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
