The highest increase in confirmed positive Covid-19 cases in Papua currently occurred in Mimika, with 19.84 cases per 100,000 people per week as of Tuesday, September 13, 2022. This figure is more than three times higher than the case count in the second-highest region. However, despite being the highest, the number of Covid-19 transmissions in Mimika has decreased compared to the previous week, which was at 24.35 cases per 100,000 people per week.
Next in second place is Jayapura City. This city recorded a weekly confirmation rate of six cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Compared to the previous week, which reached 13.24 cases, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases this week is lower.
Rounding out the top five, in addition to the two regions above, are Jayapura, Keerom, and Sarmi. Each recorded weekly confirmations of five cases, five cases, and two cases, respectively.
According to the Ministry of Health's list, the next five regencies/cities in the top 10 are Biak Numfor, Pegunungan Bintang, Merauke, and Nabire. These regions recorded an average increase of more than 0.67 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
