COVID-19 statistics in the Americas this week still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 10 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while eight others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Honduras, Guyana, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, July 11, 2022, amounted to 503, with a weekly growth exceeding 34.83 percent.
Honduras recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 150 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded five deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported two deaths.
Guyana follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 75 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded at seven. Colombia recorded 96 deaths (up 74.55%), Mexico saw a 38.19% increase in deaths, and Peru saw a 34.83% increase.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 1,630 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 3.38% compared to the previous week. Following this, Brazil recorded 1,616 deaths (up 3.72%), Mexico recorded 275 deaths (up 38.19%), Chile recorded 224 deaths (up 29.48%), and Canada recorded 190 deaths (up 31.03%).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 4,325. This accounts for 43.02 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 10,053. The number of deaths in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 4,111 deaths.
