East Java is the coolest province in Indonesia. This is based on data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), compiled by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in their *Indonesia Statistics 2023* report.
According to the report, throughout 2022, East Java had an average temperature of 24.99 degrees Celsius (°C), the lowest compared to other provinces.
Last year, the lowest temperature in East Java was 14.6 °C, and the highest temperature reached 31.4 °C.
The provinces with the next coolest average temperatures are West Java, West Sumatra, Central Kalimantan, Jambi, Central Sulawesi, North Maluku, North Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, and East Kalimantan, as shown in the graph.
This report only presents Indonesian regional temperature data for 2022, without showing a comparison with the previous year.
Globally, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) reported that in 2022, the Earth's surface temperature rose by 0.89 °C compared to the annual average temperature for the period 1951-1980.
During the period 1981-2014, the Earth's surface temperature increased annually by approximately 0.1 °C to 0.7 °C compared to the annual average temperature for the period 1951-1980. However, since 2015, the increase has consistently exceeded 0.8 °C.
"This warming trend is worrying. There are already signs that our climate is warming, wildfires are becoming more intense, storms are getting stronger, droughts are occurring, and sea levels are rising," said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson in a press release on Thursday (12/1/2023).
