This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, eight countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 17 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Jordan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Lebanon, and Malaysia. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, September 27, 2022, was 80, with weekly growth exceeding 18.75 percent.
Jordan ranks first, with a 200 percent increase in weekly deaths. Worldometer recorded six deaths in the country, up from two the previous week.
Next is Bangladesh, which recorded a 133.33 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week. The country reported 14 more deaths than the previous week's six. Deaths in Myanmar increased by 50%, Lebanon by 13 deaths (a 30% increase), and Malaysia by 18.75%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 659 deaths. This represents a 41% decrease compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea recorded 385 deaths (a 4.34% increase), Taiwan 280 deaths (a 4.87% increase), the Philippines 241 deaths (a 1.63% decrease), and India 175 deaths (a 5.41% decrease).
The total number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days was 2,267. This accounts for 27.34 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 8,291. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,799.
