The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.6 million cases by Monday, July 4, 2022. Kuwait reported the highest weekly increase in Omicron cases, with a growth of 230.26 percent. GISAID recorded 251 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 18.4 percent compared to the previous day.
Kazakhstan followed with a weekly Omicron case growth of 175.73 percent. Daily Omicron case numbers in the country increased by 155.86 percent compared to the previous day, which recorded 111 cases.
Furthermore, new Omicron cases in Uganda increased by 27.33 percent to 205 cases compared to the previous week. Omicron cases in Mayotte increased by 18.8 percent to 158 cases compared to the previous week, and Belgium reported 49,574 new Omicron cases (a 10.48% increase).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, as of yesterday's data, there were 13,204 Omicron cases, a 1.13 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
