The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.89 million cases by Tuesday, August 30, 2022. According to GISAID data, Equatorial Guinea recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with two new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Equatorial Guinea currently represents 0% of the global total.
Next is Mongolia, which recorded a 53.38% increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 53.38% increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Then, Panama reported 2,147 additional Omicron cases (up 37.8%), Mozambique reported 330 additional Omicron cases (up 27.91%), and Belgium reported 72,686 additional Omicron cases (up 20.06%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases has reached 20,365, a 0.82% increase compared to the previous day. Since its first detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
