Pre-existing conditions (comorbidities) are a major cause of death among COVID-19 patients in Central Kalimantan. Data released by the Ministry of Health on Monday, August 16, 2021, shows that the highest number of deceased patients had a history of hypertension.
The Ministry of Health data indicates that 10% of deaths were among patients with hypertension. Furthermore, 6.7% had a history of diabetes mellitus, 5% had a history of heart disease, 0.8% had an immune disorder, and 0.8% had a history of kidney disease.
Initial diagnoses of those infected with COVID-19 reported main symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough, weakness, fever, and headache.
Daily statistics for the number of daily deaths in Central Kalimantan over the past week have begun to decline. Compared to other provinces, Central Kalimantan ranks 23rd out of the highest number of deaths.
Up to August 16th, the province recorded a lower number of additional COVID-19 deaths compared to the previous period, with a difference of 5 people.
Other information from Central Kalimantan province is that the recovery rate is relatively high, reaching 84.05% (33,840 people have recovered). The death toll stands at 1,195 (2%). Those who recovered included individuals with a history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart disease, and kidney disease.
Considering gender and age group, the largest percentage of COVID-19 cases by age group are those aged 31-45 years (30.8%), followed by those aged 19-30 years (26.3%), 46-59 years (20.5%), 6-18 years (11%), over 60 years (8.4%), and 0-5 years (approximately 3%). Regarding gender, more males than females tested positive for COVID-19 in Central Kalimantan.
