This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, five countries recorded an increase in deaths, while two others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Hong Kong, South Korea, Indonesia, Japan, and India. The total deaths in these five countries as of Saturday, April 29, 2023, amounted to 509, with a weekly growth of over 0.6 percent.
Hong Kong recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 145.45 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 27 deaths, an eight percent increase compared to the previous day.
Following is South Korea, with weekly death growth reaching 50 percent. The number of deaths in this country was reported as 63. Daily death statistics show a 6.78% increase compared to the previous day's 59 deaths.
Next, Indonesia with 88 deaths (up 46.67%), Japan with 163 deaths (up 16.43%), and India with a 0.6% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in India with 168 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 0.6% compared to the previous week. Following India, the highest number of deaths was recorded in Japan with 163 deaths (up 16.43%), Indonesia with 88 deaths (up 46.67%), South Korea with 63 deaths (up 50%), and Hong Kong with 27 deaths (up 145.45%).
Total Covid-19 deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 538. This accounts for 22.75 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 2,365. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 480 deaths.
