This week, 10 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 14 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Afghanistan, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Bahrain, and Israel. The total deaths in these five countries for the week of June 19, 2022, amounted to 28, with a weekly growth exceeding 36.36 percent.
Afghanistan recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 300 percent. Worldometer recorded four deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's single death.
Next is Iraq, which recorded 150 percent more deaths than the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as five, higher than the two recorded the previous week. Sri Lanka recorded two deaths (up 100%), Bahrain recorded two deaths (up 100%), and Israel saw a 36.36% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan, with 1,071 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 10.23% compared to the previous week. Following that, Japan reported 136 deaths (down 11.69%), Thailand reported 136 deaths (down 20.47%), India reported 83 deaths (up 20.29%), and South Korea reported 75 deaths (down 33.63%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,650. This accounts for 19.48 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 8,472. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,857.
