The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.87 million cases by Friday, September 9, 2022. American Samoa recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 24.42 percent. GISAID recorded 107 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.94 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Montenegro, which recorded a 24.41 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 8.77 percent compared to the previous day.
Then, Iraq with an increase of 334 Omicron cases (up 23.7%), Paraguay with a 20.05 percent increase in Omicron cases to 964 compared to the previous week, and North Korea with an increase of 44,404 Omicron cases (up 7.32%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 21,189, a 0.03 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant against the surge in Omicron cases worldwide. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
