The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.26 million cases by Thursday, July 14, 2022. The Dominican Republic ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 90.41 percent. GISAID recorded 139 new Omicron cases in this country. Daily cases in this region increased by 41.84 percent compared to the previous day.
Belize follows with a weekly growth in Omicron cases reaching 33.33 percent. The number of new Omicron cases reported in this country is 320. Daily statistics show a 0.63 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, with 318 cases recorded.
Next, the increase in Omicron cases in Jamaica rose by 31.01 percent to 1,035 cases compared to the previous week, Chile with 10,973 additional Omicron cases (up 23.86%), and New Zealand with a 20.88 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 10,436 compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the addition of Omicron cases up to today's data is recorded at 15,089 cases, or a 0.01 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
