Based on data from IQAir, Jakarta's air quality was the third worst in the world on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 9:40 AM WIB (Western Indonesian Time). The air quality index (AQI) in Jakarta was 152, with PM2.5 as the primary pollutant, at a concentration of 57 µg/m³ (micrograms per cubic meter).
"The current PM2.5 concentration in Jakarta is 11.4 times the WHO's annual air quality guideline," as quoted from the IQAir website.
According to the WHO, the ideal air quality standard has a PM2.5 concentration between 0 and 5 micrograms per cubic meter.
The Jakarta air quality index was derived from 22 contributors, including PurpleAir, AirNow, the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), and the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
Johannesburg, South Africa, ranked first with an AQI of 166, followed by Doha, Qatar, with an AQI of 153.
