The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 2.88 million cases by Tuesday, September 6, 2022. According to GISAID data, Venezuela recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 135 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Venezuela currently represents 0 percent of the global total.
Peru follows with a weekly growth in Omicron cases of 10.37 percent, reporting 14,394 new cases. Daily statistics show a 3.23 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 13,943 cases.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in Mayotte increased by 9.19 percent to 309 cases compared to the previous week; in Mauritius, they increased by 8.42 percent to 2,910 cases; and in Spain, they increased by 7.7 percent to 60,286 cases.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases has reached 21,166, a 0.37 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily risen.
