The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.18 million cases by Sunday, September 11, 2022. According to GISAID data, Russia recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 8,323 new cases. This represents 0.2 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Japan follows with a weekly growth of Omicron cases reaching 6.38 percent, adding 209,220 cases. Daily statistics show a 0.04 percent increase compared to the previous day's 209,140 cases.
Furthermore, Peru saw a 5.9 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 14,766 compared to the previous week. Austria saw a 5.42 percent increase, reaching 94,628 cases, and Iceland reported 1,241 additional cases (a 4.55 percent increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 21,297, a 0.41 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant against the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
