The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.46 million cases by Thursday, July 7, 2022. Kazakhstan recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 176.7 percent. GISAID recorded 285 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.35 percent compared to the previous day.
Following Kazakhstan, the Virgin Islands (U.S.) ranked second. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in this country grew by 29.19 percent. The daily increase in Omicron cases in this country rose by 12.33 percent compared to the previous day, totaling 1,111 cases.
Next, Uganda reported 204 additional Omicron cases (up 26.71%), Botswana reported 2,060 additional Omicron cases (up 15.15%), and Qatar saw a 13.62 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 317 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, 13,888 Omicron cases were recorded, representing a 0.64 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
