COVID-19 statistics in Asia this week still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 19 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while five other countries recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Palestine, Nepal, Hong Kong, Azerbaijan, and Japan. The total deaths in these five countries as of Friday, July 29, 2022, amounted to 476, with a weekly growth exceeding 99.51 percent.
Palestine recorded the highest increase in deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 700 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded eight deaths, an increase compared to the previous week where only one death was reported.
Next is Nepal, which recorded deaths 200 percent higher than the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as six, higher than the two deaths recorded the previous week. Hong Kong recorded 43 deaths (up 104.76%), Azerbaijan recorded 14 deaths (up 100%), and Japan recorded 405 deaths (up 99.51%).
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 405 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 99.51% compared to the previous week. Following that, Taiwan reported the largest number of deaths with 396 (down 16.63%), India recorded 341 deaths (up 4.6%), Iran (Islamic Republic) recorded 231 deaths (up 79.07%), and Thailand recorded 208 deaths (up 50.72%).
The total deaths in Asia over the last seven days were recorded at 2,255. This accounts for 16.24 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 13,888. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,786 deaths.
