The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.99 million cases by Thursday, October 20, 2022. Ukraine recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 20.63 percent. GISAID recorded 760 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.53 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Russia, which recorded an 8.85 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 1.79 percent compared to the previous day.
Then, Pakistan with 2,213 additional Omicron cases (up 8.37%), Puerto Rico with 9,381 additional Omicron cases (up 5%), and Japan with 252,900 additional Omicron cases (up 4.35%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, until yesterday's data, there were 24,360 Omicron cases, a 0.01 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant against the surge in Omicron cases worldwide. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
