The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.92 million cases by Friday, August 12, 2022. Palau recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 52.17 percent. GISAID recorded 35 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 6.06 percent compared to the previous day.
Iceland followed in second place. Compared to the previous week, the increase in Omicron cases in this country grew by 47.44 percent. The number of new Omicron cases reported in this country was 979. Daily statistics show a 0.1 percent increase in new Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 978 cases.
Next, Russia with 6,260 additional Omicron cases (up 45.82%), Saint Lucia with 61 additional Omicron cases (up 35.56%), and the Dominican Republic with 416 additional Omicron cases (up 24.55%).
Meanwhile, the increase in Omicron cases in Indonesia, up to today's data, recorded 18,022 cases, or a 0.49 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
