COVID-19 statistics in Africa this week still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, eight countries recorded an increase in deaths, while six others recorded deaths, albeit in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Tunisia, Ghana, Malawi, Morocco, and Kenya. The total number of deaths in these five countries for the week of July 10, 2022, was 78, with a weekly growth exceeding 75 percent.
Tunisia recorded the highest increase in deaths in Africa, with weekly growth reaching 255.56 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 32 deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported nine deaths.
This is followed by Ghana, with weekly death growth reaching 200 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded as three. Malawi recorded two deaths (up 100%), Morocco recorded 34 deaths (up 88.89%), and Kenya recorded an increase of 75% in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Africa occurred in South Africa, with 67 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 20.24% compared to the previous week. Following this, Morocco reported the highest number with 34 deaths (up 88.89%), Tunisia with 32 deaths (up 255.56%), Ethiopia recorded 13 deaths (up 62.5%), and Kenya recorded seven deaths (up 75%).
The total number of deaths in Africa over the past seven days was 176. This accounts for 1.71 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 10,276 deaths. The number of deaths in Africa increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation, which was 175 deaths.
