The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.58 million cases by Wednesday, August 10, 2022. According to GISAID data, Libya recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 15 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Libya currently represents 0 percent of the global total.
Next is Gambia, which recorded a 25.81 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 1.04 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Then, Peru with an increase of 11,624 Omicron cases (up 11.68%), Hong Kong saw a 10.41 percent increase to 5,994 cases compared to the previous week, and Sweden saw a 9.43 percent increase to 57,559 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases increased by 1.65 percent compared to the previous day, reaching 17,766 cases. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
