The Cigarette Waste Brand Audit Report published by the Lentera Anak Foundation revealed that 18,062 units of cigarette waste were found during 19.3 hours of collection in Jabodetabek in 2025.
Effie Herdi, Campaign Strategist for the Lentera Anak Foundation, explained that the waste consisted of 16,847 cigarette butts and 1,215 cigarette packaging/wrappers.
Based on brands, Effie stated that PT HM Sampoerna (Philip Morris) contributed the most.
"PT HM Sampoerna (Philip Morris) is the top polluter, responsible for 35.9% of the total packaging waste and 39.5% of the total cigarette butt waste," she explained on Monday, November 17, 2025.
According to Effie, the top three producers responsible for cigarette waste align with the national cigarette industry's market share.
This indicates that the greater a brand's production and consumption, the larger its contribution to environmental pollution.
"So, in Jabodetabek, in those five locations, HM Sampoerna is always the highest, Gudang Garam is always second, and Djarum is always third," she revealed.
