Kompas Research and Development conducted a survey on environmentally friendly lifestyles practiced by Indonesian people.
The results show that the majority, or 35.2% of respondents, strive to protect the environment by bringing their own water bottles.
Furthermore, 23.8% buy and consume food in moderation, and 16.1% reuse shopping bags.
"These three habits, when examined, all converge on efforts to reduce waste, especially inorganic waste that is difficult for nature to decompose," said the Kompas Research and Development team in their report on Thursday (February 27, 2025).
Another 8.7% of respondents manage waste based on the 5R principle (reduce, reuse, recycle, replace, replant), and 6.1% reuse items that are no longer used.
Other efforts made by respondents to protect the environment include reducing the purchase of new clothes (4.8%), buying recycled goods (3.2%), and using stainless steel straws (1.5%).
This Kompas Research and Development survey involved 524 respondents from 38 provinces, selected randomly according to the population proportion in each province.
Data collection was conducted from February 22-24, 2025, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.21% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
