Reasons Why Indonesian Citizens Are Interested in Buying Electric Vehicles

According to a Deloitte survey, 42% of respondents in Indonesia are interested in owning an electric vehicle.

This figure includes respondents who are interested in hybrid electric (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV), and battery electric (BEV) vehicles.

Based on their reasons, 53% of respondents are interested in buying an electric vehicle because the fuel cost is cheaper.

In addition, respondents are also interested in the experience provided, vehicle maintenance, incentives, and government regulations.

4. Concern for the environment: 42%

6. Better lifestyle experience: 37%
7. Can be used as a power source/backup power: 36%
8. Longer driving range: 36%
9. Less maintenance: 33%
10. Brand image: 33%
11. Government incentives, subsidies, or stimulus: 32%
12. Better resale value: 30%
13. Concern for personal health: 29%
14. Potential additional taxes for gasoline/diesel-based vehicles: 25%
15. Potential ban on new gasoline/diesel-based car sales: 18%
16. Influence of friends or the environment: 6%.

This survey involved 1,004 respondents in Indonesia, which was then narrowed down to 363 respondents who are interested in electric vehicles.

The data collection was conducted in October-November 2025 through an online panel, where consumers who are old enough to drive were invited to fill out the questionnaire via email.
