The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.11 million cases by Monday, November 7, 2022. Based on GISAID data, Saudi Arabia recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 229 new cases. This represents 0.01 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Egypt follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in Egypt increased by 6.94 percent, with 925 new cases reported. The daily increase in Omicron cases showed a 6.94 percent rise compared to the previous day's 865 cases.
Next, Aruba saw a 5.74 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 645 cases compared to the previous week. Russia reported 20,158 new Omicron cases (a 4.03 percent increase), and Austria saw a 2.56 percent increase, reaching 119,880 cases compared to the previous week.
As for Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 25,521 as of yesterday, a 0.42 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily increased.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
