COVID-19 statistics in Europe this week still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. This week, 15 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 11 others recorded fewer deaths.
Percentage-wise, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, and the United Kingdom. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, August 9, 2022, amounted to 717, with a weekly growth exceeding 34.19 percent.
Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 113.04 percent. Worldometer recorded 49 deaths in this country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported 23 deaths.
Lithuania follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 83.33 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll was 11. Hungary recorded 96 deaths (up 77.78%), Poland 90 deaths (up 50%), and the UK 471 deaths (up 34.19%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Italy, with 1,050 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 14.5% compared to the previous week. Following Italy, Germany reported 886 deaths (up 12.72%), France 479 deaths (down 22.62%), the UK 471 deaths (up 34.19%), and Spain 375 deaths (down 0.27%).
Total deaths in Europe over the past seven days reached 4,669. This accounts for 33.77 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 13,826. The death toll in Europe decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 4,675 deaths.
