This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, seven countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 18 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Israel, Afghanistan, Armenia, Pakistan, and Azerbaijan. The total deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, October 5, 2022, amounted to 53, with a weekly growth rate exceeding 14.29 percent.
Israel ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths of 183.33 percent. Worldometer recorded 17 deaths in this country, an increase compared to the previous week's six deaths.
Afghanistan follows, with a weekly growth in deaths reaching 150 percent. The country reported five deaths, compared to two the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, deaths in Armenia increased by 100%, Pakistan recorded seven deaths (a 40% increase), and Azerbaijan recorded 16 deaths (a 14.29% increase).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 643 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 1.1% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, Taiwan reported 317 deaths (up 2.92%), South Korea reported 263 deaths (down 30.97%), the Philippines reported 223 deaths (down 2.62%), and India reported 154 deaths (down 14.92%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days reached 1,975. This accounts for 26.06 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 7,578. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,232 deaths.
