Anticipating the rising impact of the Omicron variant, 136 regencies/cities aggressively conducted testing, exceeding the national average. Data as of Wednesday, October 19, 2022, shows a national average of 139.21 specimens tested per week.
The top five, starting with the highest, are Kediri City, Gianyar, Sukoharjo, Banjarbaru City, and Serang City, with 970, 965, 922, 914, and 901 specimens per week, respectively.
Kediri City ranks first. With a population of 292,930, it tested 970 specimens per week. The latest positive rate is 6.02 percent, down from the previous week.
Next is Gianyar. With a population of 528,070, it tested 965 specimens per week. The positive rate is 3.27 percent, also down from the previous week.
Sukoharjo recorded 922 specimens per week; Banjarbaru City, with a population of 280,110, tested 914 specimens per week; and Serang City, with a population of 718,430, tested 901 specimens per week.
In anticipation of Omicron's impact across various regions, based on national COVID-19 data, 159 regencies/cities actively reported higher daily specimen testing numbers than before. Conversely, 134 regencies/cities recorded lower specimen testing numbers compared to the previous week.
Outside Java, some regions with the highest number of specimens tested include Gianyar (965 specimens), Banjarbaru City (914 specimens), and Kendari City (817 specimens).
Although COVID-19 transmission has decreased in some areas, the government urges everyone to continue reducing transmission by consistently wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
