This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, nine countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 19 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Bahrain, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Hong Kong. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, September 12, 2022, amounted to 120, with weekly growth exceeding 25 percent.
Bahrain ranks first, with a 200 percent increase in weekly deaths. Worldometer recorded three deaths in the country, an increase from the one death reported the previous week.
Next is Singapore, which recorded a 166.67 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week. The country reported eight more deaths than the previous week's three. Kazakhstan reported two deaths (up 100%), Azerbaijan reported 32 deaths (up 88.24%), and Hong Kong reported 75 deaths (up 25%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 1,681 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 18.36% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea reported 383 deaths (down 26.91%), the Philippines reported 293 deaths (down 14.83%), Taiwan reported 221 deaths (up 0.91%), and Iran (Islamic Republic) reported 183 deaths (down 31.46%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 3,476. This accounts for 34.2 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 10,165. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 4,255.
