The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 1.45 million cases by Friday, February 25, 2022. Zambia recorded the highest weekly increase in Omicron cases, with a 405.77 percent surge. GISAID recorded 263 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region decreased by 3.66 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Oman, which reported a 250 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country decreased by 16.67 percent compared to the previous day.
Omicron cases in New Zealand increased by 61.55 percent to 1,664 cases compared to the previous week. Morocco reported 73 new Omicron cases (a 58.7% increase), and Mauritius saw a 43.36 percent increase, reaching 162 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, as of Friday, February 25, 2022, 6,453 Omicron cases were recorded, a decrease of 0.83 percent compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have steadily increased.
