The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.91 million cases by Friday, November 18, 2022. The Marshall Islands recorded the highest weekly increase in Omicron cases, with an 84 percent growth. GISAID recorded 46 new Omicron cases in the country, representing an 84 percent daily increase compared to the previous day.
Réunion followed with a 10.94 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data showed a 3.73 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Peru reported 21,249 new Omicron cases (a 4.84 percent increase), Indonesia reported 27,309 new Omicron cases (a 4.11 percent increase), and Guadeloupe saw a 2.97 percent increase to 555 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, 27,309 new Omicron cases were recorded by yesterday, representing a 0.83 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
