This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, eight countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 17 others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Pakistan, Armenia, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Azerbaijan. The total deaths in these five countries as of Friday, October 7, 2022, amounted to 40, with weekly growth exceeding 50 percent.
Pakistan recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 100 percent. Worldometer recorded eight deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's four deaths.
Armenia follows with a 100 percent weekly growth in deaths. Eight deaths were reported in the country, compared to four the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, Vietnam reported four deaths (up 100%), Afghanistan saw a 66.67% increase in deaths, and Azerbaijan reported 15 deaths (up 50%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 606 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 0.16% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, Taiwan reported the highest number of deaths with 330 (up 9.63%), the Philippines with 229 deaths (up 3.62%), South Korea with 226 deaths (down 36.34%), and India with 134 deaths (down 25.56%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days amounted to 1,864. This accounts for 22.94 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 8,126. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,128 deaths.
