This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, 12 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 15 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Myanmar, Singapore, Lebanon, Bangladesh, and Armenia. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, September 22, 2022, was 48, with weekly growth exceeding 42.86 percent.
Myanmar ranks first, with a 250 percent increase in weekly deaths. Worldometer recorded seven deaths in the country, up from two the previous week.
Singapore follows, with a weekly growth in deaths reaching 133.33 percent. The country reported seven deaths, compared to three the previous week.
Rounding out the top five are Lebanon with 14 deaths (up 55.56%), Bangladesh with 10 deaths (up 42.86%), and Armenia, also with a 42.86% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, Japan recorded the highest number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days, with 1,033. This represents a 26.74% decrease compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea recorded 358 deaths (up 4.07%), Taiwan with 275 deaths (up 22.22%), the Philippines with 238 deaths (down 4.42%), and India with 187 deaths (up 16.87%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days reached 2,693. This accounts for 30.12 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 8,942. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which totaled 3,101.
