Based on Worldometer data, Indonesia's Covid-19 cases increased by 177,831 people from June 29 to July 5, 2021. This figure is a 35% increase compared to the previous week, which saw 133,553 cases.
This makes Indonesia's weekly increase in coronavirus cases the second-largest in Asia. Indonesia is only surpassed by India, which saw a weekly increase of 302,939 coronavirus cases.
The increase in coronavirus cases in Indonesia occurred after the Lebaran holiday. This led to a significant increase in hospital occupancy rates for coronavirus treatment.
Furthermore, the demand for medical oxygen has surged recently. The government has subsequently diverted industrial oxygen for medical use.
According to the Ministry of Industry, the conversion of oxygen production for medical purposes will contribute 1,700 tons per day nationally. Of this, 1,400 tons will be allocated to Java.
To prevent the spread of coronavirus, the public is urged to be disciplined in implementing the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. The public is also encouraged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
