BPOM Grants Emergency Authorization: List of Countries Purchasing Moderna Vaccine

Several countries and organizations have purchased and approved the use of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine. According to data from the Duke Global Health Innovation Center, the largest purchase was made by COVAX, amounting to 500 million doses.

The European Union and the United States (US) purchased 310 million and 300 million doses respectively. Japan purchased 50 million doses of the Moderna vaccine, Canada 44 million doses, and South Korea 40 million doses.

Australia and Switzerland purchased approximately 20-25 million doses of the US-made vaccine. The Philippines also purchased 13 million doses of the Moderna vaccine. Israel and Colombia each purchased 10 million doses.

Botswana purchased 500,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine. Eight other countries also purchased the vaccine, but the quantities are unknown.

Meanwhile, Indonesia has not yet purchased the Moderna vaccine. However, the Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) granted emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Moderna vaccine on Friday, July 2, 2021.

This vaccine has an efficacy of 94.1% for people aged 18-65 years. For people over 65 years of age, the efficacy of the Moderna vaccine reaches 86.4%.
