The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.53 million cases by Wednesday, June 29, 2022. Kuwait recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 175 percent. GISAID recorded 209 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.48 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Puerto Rico, which recorded a 20.57 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 0.02 percent compared to the previous day.
Then, American Samoa reported 68 additional Omicron cases (a 17.24% increase), Guatemala saw a 12.18 percent increase to 700 cases compared to the previous week, and Belgium saw an 11.65 percent increase to 49,027 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, 12,620 new Omicron cases were recorded, a 2.83 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
