Average Length of Schooling in Malang Regency Rises to 7.98 Years

The average length of schooling (RLS) for residents aged 25 years and over in Malang, East Java reached 7.98 years in 2025.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the RLS for residents in the region is below the average for East Java Province, which reached 8.39 years in 2025.

Malang's RLS increased by 0.18 years (2.31%) compared to the previous year, which was 7.8 years. Meanwhile, in the last five years, the RLS increased by 0.56 years (7.55%).

This RLS indicates that the average resident of Malang only attended school up to the 7th grade level. However, this RLS is still below the national average RLS of 9.07 years in 2025.

Compared to 37 other regencies/cities in East Java Province, Malang's RLS is in the 22nd position. Other regions in the province with the highest RLS are Madiun City (12.12 years), while the lowest RLS is Sampang Regency (5.19 years).
