COVID-19 statistics in Asia this week still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. This week, 19 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while nine others recorded fewer deaths.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are the Philippines, Turkey, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Iran (Islamic Republic). The total deaths in these five countries for the week of July 24, 2022, amounted to 207, with a weekly growth exceeding 157.89 percent.
The Philippines ranks first, with a 650 percent weekly increase in deaths. Worldometer recorded 15 deaths in the country, up from two the previous week.
Turkey follows in second place, with a 600 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week. Yesterday's daily death toll in the country was 28. Afghanistan recorded eight deaths (up 300%), Sri Lanka nine deaths (up 200%), and Iran (Islamic Republic) 147 deaths (up 157.89%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, Taiwan had the highest number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days, with 447 deaths. This represents an 18.73% decrease compared to the previous week. Following Taiwan, India reported 337 deaths (up 19.93%), Japan 207 deaths (up 32.69%), Iran (Islamic Republic) 147 deaths (up 157.89%), and Thailand 140 deaths (down 15.15%).
A total of 1,827 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 13.84 percent of global COVID-19 deaths, totaling 13,200. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,613 deaths.
