The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.18 million cases by Wednesday, May 31, 2023. The United States ranks first, with weekly Omicron cases growing by 0.12 percent. GISAID recorded 2.4 million Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.04 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is the United Kingdom, which recorded 0.06 percent more Omicron cases compared to the previous week. The number of Omicron cases reported in the country totaled 1.45 million, higher than the 1.44 million recorded the previous week. In Japan, Omicron cases increased by 0.09 percent to 411,780 compared to the previous week. In France, Omicron cases rose by 0.24 percent to 354,620 compared to the previous week, and Canada reported 288,330 Omicron cases (up 0.47%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 37,780, a 0.06 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
