East Java Reports the Highest Number of COVID-19 Market Clusters

After Eid al-Fitr, traditional market clusters began to emerge in various regions of Indonesia due to the spread of Covid-19. Based on data from Tuesday (June 16th), these clusters were located in 110 locations across 22 affected provinces. The infected patients were predominantly traders.

Market clusters dominated in East Java, spread across 32 locations. The number of locations is directly proportional to the number of positive and deceased patients. 111 people were found to be infected with Covid-19, with 13 of them dying. Besides East Java, other market clusters were also dominated by Central Java (18 clusters) and West Java (15 clusters).

Transmission occurred due to the minimal implementation of health protocols in the markets. In addition, some traders refused to undergo Covid-19 testing due to insufficient socialization. Another factor is that cash also has the potential to be a transmission medium.
