Anticipating the impact of the rising Omicron variant, 153 regencies/cities aggressively conducted Covid-19 testing above the national average. Data from Tuesday, October 25, 2022, shows a national average of 0.43 tests per 1,000 people per week.
The top five, starting with the highest number of people tested per 1,000 people per week, are South Jakarta (4.54 people), Central Jakarta (4.35 people), Balikpapan (4.21 people), West Jakarta (3.23 people), and East Jakarta (3.16 people).
South Jakarta ranks first, with 4.54 tests per 1,000 people per week. The latest positive rate is 10.34 percent, an increase from the previous week.
Next is Central Jakarta, with a population of 913,720. In an effort to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, 4.35 people per 1,000 were tested per week. The positive rate is 10.82 percent, also higher than the previous week.
Balikpapan, with a population of 646,020, recorded 4.21 Covid-19 tests per 1,000 people per week. West Jakarta recorded 3.23 tests per 1,000 people per week, and East Jakarta recorded 3.16 tests per 1,000 people per week.
Anticipating the impact of Omicron in various regions, based on a national Covid data recapitulation, 171 regencies/cities in Indonesia actively reported a higher number of daily tests than before. Meanwhile, 149 other regencies/cities recorded a lower number of tests compared to the previous week.
Areas outside Java with the highest number of tests include Balikpapan (4.21 people), Mimika (2.5 people), and Badung (2.43 people).
Although Covid-19 transmission has decreased in some areas, the government urges everyone to continue reducing Covid-19 transmission by consistently wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to suppressing the spread of the coronavirus.
