The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 468,850 cases by Monday, May 29, 2023. Jamaica recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 5.38 percent. GISAID recorded 3,014 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 2.48 percent compared to the previous day.
Vietnam follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in this country grew by 3.51 percent. Daily figures show a 1.39 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, totaling 5,880 cases.
Next is Indonesia with 37,693 additional Omicron cases (up 1.35%), Portugal with 22,291 additional Omicron cases (up 1.08%), and Panama with 3,073 additional Omicron cases (up 0.66%).
As for the increase in Omicron cases in Indonesia, up to today's data, there are 37,693 cases, or a 0.51 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
