The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the national percentage of infants under 6 months receiving exclusive breastfeeding (ASI) reached 73.97% in 2023. This proportion increased by 2.68% year-on-year (yoy) from 72.04% in the previous year.
A total of 15 provinces had exclusive breastfeeding rates above the national average last year.
West Nusa Tenggara recorded the highest national exclusive breastfeeding rate in 2023, reaching 82.45%.
The proportion of exclusive breastfeeding in West Nusa Tenggara increased from 79.69% in 2022.
Central Java ranked second nationally with the highest exclusive breastfeeding rate at 80.2%. West Java was in third place with an exclusive breastfeeding rate of 80.08%.
Meanwhile, Gorontalo had the lowest national exclusive breastfeeding rate last year, at only 55.11%.
