Tetris, The Best-Selling Video Game of All Time

The video game industry has existed for a long time and continues to develop to this day. Several video games remain popular even though they are decades old.

According to screenrant.com, here is a list of the 10 best-selling video games of all time.

1. Tetris – 500 million copies

Tetris ranks first as the best-selling video game with sales reaching 500 million copies. This game was created in Russia in 1984 for the Elektronika 60 computer. With its simple gameplay, Tetris even has its own competitions and has been adapted for 50 platforms.

2. Minecraft – 238 million copies

Minecraft is a sandbox game created by Mojang in 2009 and publicly released in 2011. This game is very popular among young gamers and has been adapted into various media, from films to novels.

3. Grand Theft Auto V – 150 million copies

Grand Theft Auto V was released in 2013. Players can play as three protagonists: Michael De Santa, Franklin Clinton, and Trevor Philips in the city of San Andreas.

4. Wii Sports – 82.9 million copies

Along with the launch of the Nintendo Wii in November 2006, the sports simulation game Wii Sports was also released. Fun and healthy, Wii Sports offers 5 sports simulations, from tennis to boxing, using the Wii Remote.

5. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds – 70 million copies

One of the historic moments for the gaming world in Japan was when Nintendo released Pokémon Red & Green, the first Pokémon series in 1996 for the Game Boy. In other countries, the game was called Pokémon Red & Blue.

7. Mario Kart 8/Deluxe – 45.53 million copies

Mario Kart 8/Deluxe was first released in 2014 for the Wii U and for the Nintendo Switch in 2017. Mario Kart 8 became the best-selling game for Nintendo's Wii U console.

8. Super Mario Bros. – 40.24 million copies

Super Mario Bros. was released on September 13, 1985, and is available on various consoles such as NES/Famicon, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo Wii, Wii U, and 3DS. According to Guinness World Records, Super Mario Bros. is the best-selling NES game of all time.

9. Red Dead Redemption 2 – 38 million copies

In 2018, Rockstar Games released Red Dead Redemption 2, an action-adventure game and prequel to Red Dead Redemption (2010). This game is themed around the Wild West era and was a huge success at the time.

10. Mario Kart Wii – 37.38 million copies

Released in 2008, Mario Kart Wii introduced motion control features, 12-player races, new vehicles (such as motorcycles), and 6 new characters.
